Marie Mathieson, the Founder of Soul Space Yoga & Wellness, grew up in Hamden, Connecticut and stayed close to her hometown in her adult years, working as a high school Spanish teacher and then as a vice principal of a middle school (grades 6-8). During her nine years as an Administrator (which included union president for Administrators’ Association, Supervisor of Staff Development and performance, Developer of semester schedules in the SIS for students and staff and maintaining a safe and productive educational environment through a progressive discipline system, etc.) the challenges and demands of her leadership role in public education increased each academic year.
At the age of 40, Yoga found Marie and she began her consistent practice. She immediately knew there was something special about this practice. As a teacher, the thrill of learning caused her study more and she enrolled in a 200 hour Yoga Teacher training in Hatha Yoga.
Her studies in and exposure to the yogic tradition, teaching, and philosophy gave her the courage to leave her career in public education. She and her husband moved to West Palm Beach to explore a new path, all with opened minds and hearts. During her first year of living in South Florida, she enrolled in a Foundations of Ashtanga teacher training program at the Native Yoga Center in Juno Beach and, in October 2015, she earned her certification as a RYT 500. Marie also hold a BS in Art, an MS in Spanish and a Degree in Educational Leadership (092 Certification).
A consummate teacher at heart, Marie hopes to inspire and spread love and light to the community during her classes, trainings and workshops. She believes yoga can bring a sense of harmony to humanity — one posture and one breath at a time. Marie incorporates the importance of humility, gratitude, and discipline in her instruction, as a means to finding freedom and inner peace — both on and off the mat.
With the love, support and encouragement of her friends and family, Marie founded Soul Space Yoga & Wellness in downtown West Palm Beach to provide yogis (new and experienced) a space to breathe, explore and connect to self and the community. She is eternally grateful to the special individuals in her life who have afforded her this gift and opportunity. Because of this, she frequently incorporates the importance of humility, gratitude and discipline in her instruction, as a means to finding freedom and inner peace, on and off the mat.
